You will be surprised by which countries rank among the top for connection speed!
Have you ever wondered which country has the fastest browsing? Where can you upload or download the most data at one time? Do you work abroad as a digital nomad and need a reliable connection for your day to day work ?
According to the latest ‘State of the Internet’ report from Akamai, it is interesting to see countries you never imagined to be part of the “top ten”.
If you were expecting to see the U.S. among the first three places you will be surprised because the U.S. is not even in the top ten. Actually it is behind Asia and Europe in regards to connection speeds, distribution, territory and cost.
It is not startling to see Japan or South Korea at the top the rankings, but the real shocker is the winner. The fastest broadband in Europe and sixth in the world (even surpassing North America) is Romania!
There are a few reasons why Romania’s internet speeds rival those of Japan and South Korea, while making the rest of Europe and North America seem archaic. For one, there are much fewer people online in Romania. The internet penetration rate is just 50 percent in Romania, while the US penetration rate is more than 80 percent. And since Romania has a population of about 20 million and a land mass about the size of Oregon, it makes it a lot easier to deliver super high speed connections.
Asia is the main rival of Europe and wins gold, silver and bronze in the rankings.
