Do you know why Americans intensified their weekly baths in the early 20th century? It was because marketing companies invested on health insecurities of the new working class. This is the reason why the advertising industry created pseudoscientific diseases like bad breath or body odor just to sell bath soaps or “Listerine” to gullible Americans.
The Association of the American Soap and Glycerine Producers wanted Americans to wash themselves sub consciously every time after using the toilet, before eating and taking showers everyday upon waking up.
A Reddit user recently surveyed 562 people and discovered that most of the men showered daily and about 60 percent of women preferred to shower three to five times a week yet with more bathing rituals involved.

You might think Americans exceed in the amount of showers taken, but they are not the only ones. A survey from Euromonitor discovered that Americans are actually rather average when it comes to hygiene. Among the 16 regions surveyed they shower more frequently than the Chinese, Brits and Japanese but not as much as Brazilian and Colombian people. In fact, these South Americans sometimes take more than one shower a day, probably there is a connection with warm climate. To sum it up, Women around the world tend to shower more than men, with the only exception being in Sweden. According to a 2008 study the opposite occurs and men take more daily showers than women! Interesting!
