We all know that if you want to travel or work in an international environment or live abroad one of the most important things is to know how to speak in English.
Every year a great number of people look for Erasmus programs, internships, and university courses in English with the hope that they are not too expensive.
That’s why U.S. colleges are the most difficult to attend because of their cost and tuition fees, which have surged by about 500 percent and keep rising every year. Where can students go for university programs in English for free (or nearly free)?
Well, look no further. Here are 7 countries that offer very low cost English programs that can be good alternatives to the pricey American college degrees!
Germany
Germany’s education landscape has many internationally well-ranked public universities thanks to special government funding to make their institutions “excellent”.
In total there are about 900 undergraduate and graduate degree courses in English in almost all fields. These programs were designed to prepare German students to communicate in English and also to attract foreign students. Americans, for example, have the opportunity to earn a degree in Germany without even speaking a word of German or paying a single dollar of tuition fee!
Finland
This country also offers a huge number of university programs in English without tuition fees. So, foreigners can study for free but they must provide for their own living expenses and the infamous night parties!
France
With about 76 English undergraduate programs in France you can easily study English at University, even if many of them are offered by expensive private universities. Despite this you can still find many graduate courses for English-speaking students, so much so that the government agency Campus France has said “It’s not longer needed to be fluent in French to study in France”.
You can also find public university programs that charge a small tuition fee of about 200 dollars.
Don’t worry if you dream about your future breakfasts with real french croissants but don’t really speak French… you can now make your dream come true even with a basic french vocabulary! Oui… merci… et voilà!
Sweden
Sweden is among the countries that offer the world’s cheapest college degrees, including about 300 university programs in English. But even if the programs are quite cheap, only the Ph.D programs are with no tuition fees. If you are thinking you are too “old” to start learning Swedish, it’s ok, now you know that you can start you career in Sweden with only English!
Norway
Again in northern Europe, Norway also offers tuition-free courses for international students and many university programs in English. But we suggest you only move there if you have ample living expenses because remember that in Norway even breathing has a cost and everything is very expensive!
Slovenia
In this country the tuition fees are very very cheap and you can enroll in one of about 150 English programs that this country offers. Plus, remember that if one day you wake up with a craving for spaghetti, Italy is very close!
Brazil
If your mother tongue is English and you are not dreaming of a life in Europe but want to study in one of the most attractive and vibrant countries in the world, Brazil offers a large number of university courses in English with low enrollment fees. In particular, you can find two of the world’s top 400 universities in Brazil, the University of Sao Paulo and the State University of Campinas. Despite this though, Brazil is not suggested as the perfect country to get an English degree because most university activities are in Portuguese… but it would be perfect for a cultural experience!
